Re: Jaywick
Me and my Mrs had a weekend away at St Oseth a couple of years back. This was around the time a car crash documentary was on tv. My Mrs was fascinated with this (she's Australian) and while we were driving around she asked if we could visit Jaywick. The look on her face when we got there was priceless, she really couldnt believe that the tv portrayal wasnt exagerrated at all.

Funnily enough, when i was a kid we had a caravan at Highfields in Clacton and Jaywick Sands was known as 'posh'

All of Jaywick is up and coming, as it can not possibly get much lower.

A one bed bungalow costs as little as £40k, rising up to 100k for a 3 bed.

Re: Jaywick
I used to go there for one week every summer growing up and it was a brilliant cheap and cheerful holiday. At that young age there was amusements, the beach, donkey rides and Clacton nearby.

It was mainly holiday homes back then and they were so tiny. Sod living there now. I drove through there a few years ago out of curiosity - and drove out a lot quicker!

When you go on rightmove and look at the cheap seafront bungalows, virtually all of them come with a sitting tenant.

Draw your own conclusions.

Re: Jaywick
I was down in Holland on sea and Clacton a few weeks back its no better or worse than a lot of seaside resorts these days. Went onto the Three jays pub near Jaywick managed by a mate of mine and big West Ham fan from Silvertown
.
He has never had a problem in pub the year or so he has been there. Its full of old school Londoners and we had a great all day session on a Sunday. So don't believe all you read in the newspapers.

Like Pagey, I have fond memories of a weeks holiday in Jaywick about 60 years ago. It was basic then, but certainly not as bad as it is now. I also spent many happy times at my mums caravan in Belair on St Osyth's beach in the late 1960's. played football on the beach with my old school friend Peter Grotier and many others, who played 30 odd games in goal for West Ham. Good memories when Jaywick, Clacton and St Osyth were fun to visit.

Re: Jaywick
Here we go again Jaywick used to be a lovely seaside area the chalets that are now lived in were originally built as holiday homes until Tendring District council decided they could be used all year round and then the rot set in !!!
TDC have actually just re-surfaced the roads but there is still so much to do with the government grant still sitting in TDC's bank account !
